Fitting tests for finding that perfect shirt? Sounds amusing, right? Laying your hands on the right size, the well-fitting shirt is no doubt frustrating. Before you pick your best fitting shirt, there are factors like sleeves, shoulders, collar, length, torso, to be considered.
But you know, all the efforts will pay off when you find that right fit. So, the next time you are preparing to buy a readymade shirt, work on these 5 easy fitting tests. You may use them as a dress shirt fitting guide.
Here they are:
Tug Test - The tug test is to check the fitting of the collar. Stick a finger or two between your neck and the collar. If you are able to easily fit more than one finger in-between the shirt collar and your neck, the collar is big. If you find it difficult to insert even one finger, the collar is too tight. Ideally, there should be no noticeable gap when the collar is buttoned.
Shoulder Sleeve Test - Test the shoulder seams to ensure they are in line with the edge of your shoulders. If the seam falls on your arm (along with the triceps), the shirt shoulders are big. If it moves higher on your shoulder, they are small. Note that fixing the shoulder seam does not exist. If the shirt fails this test, look for another shirt.
Sit Down Test - This test is basically for office guys who gotta sit for hours. If the buttons pull after buttoning-up and sitting down, the shirt's torso is tight. Look out for a shirt one size larger.
Length Test - The quickest way to test the length of the shirt is to raise your arms while wearing it, untucked. If your midsection gets exposed, the shirt is short. Tuck the shirt in, raise your arms if the tails pop-out, the shirt is short. Tuck the shirt again, raise your arms if the shirt balloons out, the shirt is too long.
Sleeve Test - Perfect sleeves should ideally end at the junction of the wrists and palms. If sleeves stretch beyond that point, they are long. If they end before that tip, they are short.
So, the next time you decide to buy a new shirt, do run the above tests. The tests are simple and basic tests are we guarantee you, these tests will help you choose the right men's fitting shirt.
